Preemies...

I am the proud mother of a premature baby. She was 4 wks. premature. I had to be induced because of PIH/preeclampsia. I hated it at the time, because (silly me!) I wanted to experience the last month of pregnancy. Go ahead, smack me over the head now.

I know that she's just technically a preemie, since she was born 1 week before a regular term - which term starts at 37 wks. I can't help but compare her sometimes to other babies her age. Her adjusted age is 6.75 mths., but she'll be 8mths. on Sunday.

Anyway, this is all coming from boards that I visit, friends with babies her age, and just going out. I see all these little ones her age that are crawling and pulling up and standing...It makes me wonder when *MY* baby is going to do that. I need to stop comparing her, though. It's not a healthy habit. She's sitting on her own now (for 1.5wks. already!), and she was rocking on hands and knees before she sat on her own. She rolls all over the place, she squeals, laughs, smiles, grabs for toys, reaches for toys, eats like a champ...She's very active for a preemie, and that's GREAT!!!!! But I took her to Gymboree for the first time today, and we were surrounded by nothing but crawlers and walkers. And they all had teeth, which we still don't have here!

*sigh* I know she'll crawl when she's ready to. I should consider myself lucky that she's not yet, because then I REALLY wouldn't be able to do anything. I'd have to get gates up, find a place to set up the extra playpen we have...Why do I torment myself like this? I MUST STOP MY OWN INSANITY!!!!!

*hugs*

My guess is that this next month we will see her crawling/pulling up and maybe getting some teeth. Even though she is not crawling, I see her pulling up on things all the time. She does not pull herself up to a standing position, but it is still a pretty good ways that she pulls up to.
